From the sounds of reports around the NFL, when Michael Vick visits the New York Jets today he is pretty much expected to sign a deal with the team. There is one thing that might ruin the deal however and it’s all on Vick. We may think it is petty but Vick is adamant about wearing #7. For those that forgot, current Jets starting quarterback and possible future of the team, Geno Smith, already wears that number. If Vick can not get that number it may seriously be a deal breaker. Sources close to Vick tell us … Mike is very serious about rocking #7 next season, no matter which team signs him. Besides the fact he wore #7 in college and all throughout his pro career, Vick also has a clothing line called V7 — and he’s dead serious about sticking with his number. Problem is … Geno Smith currently wears #7 … and he’s supposed to be the QB of the future in NY. Now we’re told the jersey situation is not an absolute dealbreaker — but it will be a “big issue” in negotiations.

Word is if the Jets can not convince Smith to give up that number, they may still sign Vick, but will literally have to pay more than they want. At that point it may not be worth it for an aging quarterback that can not stay healthy.
