If you trust Phil Jackson’s opinion on basketball, then prepare yourself to see the Knicks pull off some upsets in the playoffs if they make it. As of right this moment technically they are the 8th seed, but the Hawks have two more games left than the Knicks do this season so anything can still happen. Earlier this week Tyson Chandler felt confident saying the Knicks could surprise people in the playoffs and make a deep run based on how they have played lately. Seems like Phil agrees based on one condition.

When asked if he agreed with what Tyson said, Phil said this:

“Well, with J.R. (Smith) playing at the level he’s playing at now, yes,” Jackson said. “When Carmelo (Anthony) had to carry the load in scoring, a lot of times on his own back and other people weren’t stepping into helping him carry that load, which Amar’e and J.R. have done, it could be a struggle. But now they have more than one option out there on the floor and I think that we’ll give teams trouble.”

Everything boils down to Melo getting help on a constant basis from JR Smith and Amar’e specifically. They are the two players, besides maybe Tim Hardaway Jr who can really get their own shots and fill up the scoreboard. The way the Pacers have been playing lately the Knicks might want to hope they regain the top seed because they look very vulnerable to and early playoff exit.
