Wow. According to reports, a 15-year-old kid ran away from home and grabbed a flight from Mineta San Jose International Airport to Kahului Airport on the island of Maui, Hawaii. But this wasn’t an ordinary runaway, the kid managed to creep past airport security and weathered the 5 1/2 hour flight from the plane’s wheel well. Get the full scoop after the jump.

Of course, now, the FBI is involved. In a released statement from federal officials in Hawaii, the boy climbed into the jet without knowing where it was headed.

After the 2,350-mile flight, the boy exited the wheel well, collapsed, stood up a few minutes later and began walking the tarmac. That’s when he was noticed by airport officials. Lucky kid, nonetheless. According to the LA Times, of the 105 people who have stowed away on flights around the world over the last 67 years, 25 lived through the ordeal. The cause of death ranges from either falling out of the plane to a lack of oxygen from the heights.

Because he had no malicious intent, officials don’t plan on charging the kid with anything. They’re more concerned with how easy it was to make it from California to Hawaii without alerting security.
