The films producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, tells The Hollywood Reporter that Eddie Murphy will reprise his role as Axel Foley, the Detroit cop from the original film series.

“We’re going to take Eddie [Murphy] back to Detroit,” the producer said. “He’s going to be in Beverly Hills … so we’re going to have some fun with him.”

In April, Bruckheimer told THR that they were in the process of getting the script finished, and eyeing a summer or early fall shoot.

The first three Beverly Hills Cop films were released in 1984, 1987 and 1994, and earned a total of $735.5 million worldwide.
