The “Time Is Illmatic” documentary is set to be released in theatres and on-demand this coming October and it turns out that it wasn’t easy for the makers of the documentary to convince Nas to be a part of it. In an interview with Charlie Rose on PBS, Nasir shared how until he saw the hard work that One9 and Eric Parker (the makers of the documentary) put into it, he wanted “nothing to do with it.”

“…Something about them, they kept at it and they was really so determined to get it done that, I thought it had gone away and just last year we had sat down and they showed me how much they’d done and I just had to take my hat off and finally sit down and do an interview and let them in and I’m glad I did,” Nas told Rose about One9 and Parker.

Now, after premiering at The Tribeca Film Festival and being purchased by Tribeca Film, the documentary is set to be available for viewing to Nas fans all around the world.

Nas also discussed in the interview how his influences range from Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra to Ice Cube, Slick Rick and Eric B and Rakim. He discusses how he feels he changed the game of hip hop and the impact that his community has.
