So much for being committed to the Nets huh? After just one season in Brooklyn, Paul Pierce is jumping ship and signed a 2 year/$11 million dollar deal with the Washington Wizards. Things didn’t quite work out as some expected after Pierce and Kevin Garnett joined the team after a trade from the Celtics last year. The way it looks at the moment, next year will be even tougher in Brooklyn for the Nets to really do much. So can you blame Pierce for leaving? Hit the jump.

Pierce, an unrestricted free agent, also drew interest from the Dallas Mavericks, the Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers — among other teams — before deciding to join the up-and-coming Wizards, who went 44-38 during the 2013-14 regular season before losing to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

He averaged about 13 points per game last year which is a far cry from his career average. This is another example of a player who at one point was a superstar and refuses to realize that it is time to hang up the jersey and retire. Years from now most people will totally forget that Pierce played in Brooklyn or Washington.

The Nets themselves are in big trouble. They went all in for last season for a run at the title and it didn’t work. They gave up so many draft picks to make it happen, not too mention they also have no money to offer new players to come join the team. The immediate future looks very sketchy for them and Kevin Garnett is also still up in the air for next season, especially with Jason Kidd and Pierce leaving.

So next season when someone says “Where Brooklyn at”, you can probably tell them they are at the bottom of the eastern conference.
