The parents of Trayvon Martin hosted a “peace walk and peace talk” event on Saturday at Crenshaw High School through a foundation they set up in memory of their son. Nipsey Hussle and Kobe Bryant were on hand to meet with the family and donned Trayvon Martin Crenshaw rally t-shirts.
On February 26, 2012 neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman shot and killed unarmed, 17-year old Trayvon Martin as he walked back to his father’s home after buying candy from the store. On July 13, 2013, George Zimmerman was found not guilty of second degree murder and manslaughter as the six-person jury believed his self-defense argument. There was public outrage as many believed Zimmerman got away with an unlawful murder and targeted Martin for racial reasons.
One year after the verdict and few days after what would have been Trayvon’s 19th birthday, Trayvon’s family and friends want him to know he is not forgotten and the peaceful fight carries on.
