Just when you thought only honorary degrees were given in Hip Hop, Phonte & Super Producer 9th Wonder Will Be Honored At their Alma Mater. Rapper Phonte, short for Phontigallo and 9th Wonder whom both graduated from North Carolina Central University, will both be honored at their alma mater’s second annual Forty Under Forty Awards Gala. Hit the jump to read the press release and learn how YOU can attend.

These recipients, who were selected from among 150 candidates, have demonstrated significant accomplishments before the age of 40 in arts, entertainment, healthcare, sciences, education, law, business, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, public service or government.

“NCCU alumni are doing amazing work in virtually every field, but these 40 are special because they have achieved so much so early,” said Harriet Frink Davis, Ph.D., vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement. “This celebration recognizes their hard work and dedication as well as their outstanding accomplishments, which will inspire NCCU students and graduates for years to come.”

Included among NCCU’s 2014 Forty Under Forty awardees are nationally prominent educators, music industry innovators, an Emmy award-winning journalist, international research scientists and a wardrobe stylist who works with A-list celebrities.
