There’s been numerous reports that the Boston Celtics were trying to trade Rajon Rondo but Danny Ainge has denied it each time. Well it looks like Rondo himself is asking for the transaction to go down, and is ready to get up out of Boston.
The Celtics are in rebuilding mode but did briefly try to land Kevin Love to pair him up with Rondo. That obviously failed as Love was traded to the Cavaliers and now Rondo is taking the same route of asking for a trade.
Jackie MacMullan of ESPN said Rondo “has told them he wants out,” appearing on an Around the Horn behind the scenes video that was posted earlier this week.
He’s put them on notice now, so expect plenty of rumors to swirl around Rondo until a deal is done — or, at the very least, until the trade deadline passes.
Makes sense what with Kevin Love deal off and Rondo obviously wanting another championship, rather than stay with a team rebuilding. That’s the new NBA and the new Boston Celtics – no loyalty on either side. Fans don’t have much insight into behind-the-scenes player/coach disagreements, but I did search and find an article about Rivers and Rondo almost getting into a fight. I think Boston should have traded Rondo before Rivers left and kept Pierce and Garnett, then maybe Rivers would have stayed. So, where does Ainge fit into the Rondo/Rivers scenario? How well Rondo get along with the rest of the team?
