Jay Electronic has enough material for multiple albums. However, fans are going to have to wait a little while longer as Jay Elect still not comfortable enough to whittle the material down into one project for release.

MTV News caught up with the Roc Nation rapper at the red carpet of the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta and says that “recreational drug use” has been a hard habit to kick. Back in July, Jay Elect revealed that drug use has contributed to the delay of his along awaited album.

Staying clean is still a struggle, but Jay Elect clears up that it isn’t weed that’s holding him back, he just records when he feels like it.

“When I came into Islam in my early adult life, I stopped smoking weed and drinking, and over the past few years I just picked those activities back up,” he explained. “[So it’s] not that I had fallen into hardcore Skid Row drug abuse [but it was] just taking a toll on my body and lifestyle.”

“I’m still fighting to stay clean,” he added, “It’s always a fight to do the right thing and I’m always making music so that didn’t necessarily have an effect on my music, I just work when I feel like it. I don’t like to force music.”

Through it all, Jay Z is still a big supporter of Jay Elect, performing along side him at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival back in July.

“[Jay’s] very involved and we’ve got a good relationship,” Jay Elect told MTV News. “The greatest thing that he’s done with me, is that he’s been very patient with me — just letting me do me, and take my time. He’s got the music, but I’ve still gotta get to a point where I’m comfortable with it, because at the end of the day it’s me coming.”

“I’ve got enough material for many albums.”
