We’re going into year two since Dwight Howard left the Lakers and signed with the Houston Rockets and he’s still being talked about.  This time is the Lakers new coach Byron Scott who fired off the shot.

Dwight Howard’s time with the Lakers was a total disaster.  There were numerous reports about the rift between him and Kobe Bryant and they were swept out of the first round of the playoffs.  Howard then decided to take less money with the Rockets rather than return to the Lakers.  The exact problem between Howard and Bryant hasn’t been outright explained by either of them but it was speculated that Howard’s playful, comedic demeanor didn’t mesh with Bryant’s stern work ethic.

New Lakers head coach Byron Scott agrees with that. From the LA Daily News Mark Medina:

“My outside perspective is Kobe is a real serious guy and wants to win championships,” Scott said. “I don’t know if Dwight is that serious about it. I know No. 24 is and that probably was the clash.”  That explains why Scott predicted Howard “would love to play and beat the crap out of us and have a great game.”

The Lakers will face the Rockets tonight at the Staples Center for their season opener.  Howard has already faced the Lakers three times since leaving them. But this will mark the first time Bryant and Howard step on the court together in opposing uniforms as Kobe was injured last season.
