Today Roc Nation Sports made the big announcement that they signed Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.  Bryant is in the last year of his contract with Dallas and decided a change was needed, so he parted ways with Eugene Parker and joined Roc Nation.  It’s reportedly a move that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn’t like.

It’s the second time in Bryant’s five-year career that he’s parted ways with Parker. Parker was Bryant’s agent when the receiver came into the league in 2010 before being let go in December 2011 for Drew Rosenhaus. However, Bryant’s relationship with Rosenhaus didn’t last long and the Cowboys wide receiver rehired Parker in August 2012.

The move to Roc Nation could throw a wrench in Bryant’s upcoming contract negotiations. According to multiple reports, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn’t want Bryant to sign with Roc Nation and Jones will be ‘reluctant’ to do a deal with them.

If Bryant’s demands are too high, or Jones refuses to negotiate with Roc Nation, that doesn’t mean Bryant will be leaving Dallas. As former agent Joel Corry points out, the Cowboys have the option to franchise him for almost $13 million.

This isn’t the first time Jay Z’s agency has come under ridicule from the higher ups.  Other big time agents have expressed disdain for the rapper entering the business.  There were also people who felt like he didn’t know what he was doing and would fail like Master’s P’s No Limit Sports.  So far he has done the exact opposite and the agency is very successful.  I’m not sure what Jones’ specific issue with the agency is, but hopefully he’s able to get past it.
