HUFFINGTONPOST

Last night President Barack Obama announced his plans to dramatically increase deportation relief for an estimated 4.4 million undocumented immigrants. The executive action will protect parents, as well as those who came to the U.S. as children and others with long-standing ties to the country, from being forced out of their homes.

Many of the presidents critics are outraged and are even calling this new policy amnesty. To which the president responded by stating “What I’m describing is accountability – a common-sense, middle ground approach,” he said. Also stating that amnesty is what has been happening thus far in the United States by not giving any penalty or solution to the status of undocumented immigrants.

Obama urges the estimated 11 milllion undocumented immigrants to “Come out of the shadows and get right with the law”

So who can apply to this new immigration program? Undocumented immigrants who have been in the United States for more than 5 years, that have children who are U.S. citizens, those who register and pass a criminal background check, and are willing to pay their fair share of taxes. If you then meet this criteria you will be able to stay in this country temporarily, with out fear of deportation.

This does not apply to illegal immigrants who have recently come to this country or those who may try to illegally come in in the near future. This also does not apply to undocumented immigrants who have a criminal background.

“Mass amnesty would be unfair. Mass deportation would be both impossible and contrary to our character,” he said. “What I’m describing is accountability – a commonsense, middle ground approach: If you meet the criteria, you can come out of the shadows and get right with the law. If you’re a criminal, you’ll be deported. If you plan to enter the U.S. illegally, your chances of getting caught and sent back just went up.”

According to Obama and the experts he has advising him This new policy should boost the economy as well as lower the nations deficit. I am assuming it is because this new policy will lead to millions of people being shielded from deportation and made eligible to work.
