IFWT_Percy Harvin Jets

After reports that he was a locker room cancer amongst other things, Percy Harvin’s trade to the New York Jets have worked out well for him.  He’s been producing on the field and there hasn’t been any reports of disruption amongst the team, although they’re playing pretty horribly.  But things won’t remain this way, Harvin will cause a dilemma going forward.

Harvin has four years remaining on a blockbuster $64.25 million extension that includes non-guaranteed base salaries of $10.5 million, $9.9 million, $9.95 million and $11.15 million through 2018. He’s smart enough to know that he won’t make that kind of money on the open market if the Jets cut him, but his leverage comes from the freedom of choice.

If the Jets aren’t willing to pony up $10.5 million in 2015 — or restructure to give him more guaranteed money over the next couple years — he’ll find a new home with a more suitable system and better quarterback.

Why take a pay cut to play for a bad team with an unsettled quarterback situation? That isn’t going to happen.

Harvin has flashed his game-breaking talent in six games with the Jets, but has fallen victim too many times to nightmarish quarterback play. Geno Smith was benched 11 minutes into Harvin’s first game.

There’s some other changes expected in the Jets organization.  A new general manager, possibly new coach (firing Rex Ryan), and a change at quarterback (some believe the Jets will draft a QB).
