Hopsin and his girlfriend

After being named as one of the XXL Freshman in 2012 alongside Danny Brown, Machine Gun Kelly, Macklemore, French Montana, Future, Kid Ink, Don Trip, Iggy Azalea and Roscoe Dash, L.A.-based rapper Hopsin went on to have a moderately successful career. It was much more on an underground level, but he consistently toured and put out solid projects, just not on such a mainstream level like some of his classmates. (Save for Don Trip and kind of Roscoe Dash…this may be the most successful class yet!)

Unfortunately, the cutthroat rap game may have proved to be too much for Hopsin, and he took to his Facebook account last night to announce his indefinite retirement.

I just wanted to take time out to say I appreciate all of u who have supported my music over these past few years. A Lot of u have told me stories about how I have changed your life. You too have changed mine in ways that u can never imagine. Unfortunately, tonight is the night that I am actually moving away to Australia. Over the past couple years I have come to conclusion that this profession just isn’t for me, so im going to venture out into new areas of life. I will always be an MC at heart, but this rap stuff just isn’t for me. I hope Youguys can respect it. I’ve signed over my half of the funk volume label to my business partner Dame. I also wished Swizzz, Dizzy Wright and Jarren Benton good luck in their careers. Thank u all! I’m out.

Sincerely,

Marcus Jamal Hopson aka “Hopsin”

Our friends over at HHNM also had an interesting observation – Hopsin’s girlfriend is a 24-year-old makeup artist from Australia. Do you think he’s dropping everything for his chick?! Hmm!
