Candy Apple Outbreak
Breaking News: Don’t Eat Candy Apples!!! The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports a fatal outbreak where at least 4 people have died and 28 are infected from caramel apples possibly infected with “Listeria monocytogenes.”

According to the CDC’s Breaking News: Don’t Eat Candy Apples report, a deadly bacterium identified as Listeria has claimed lives and literally sickened others.

“Symptoms of listeriosis infection include muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, fever, and convulsions. Typically, symptoms begin three to 70 days after eating the tainted food.”

Of those sick, it’s reported that nine were pregnant. (Pregnant women are 10 times more likely to get listeriosis after eating infected food). Most of the people interviewed for the outbreak report eating commercially packaged caramel apples. There’s currently no brand or company attached to the outbreak as the CDC continues to investigate.

In the meantime, the CDC is warning consumers who may have bought caramel apples with toppings like nuts, chocolate or sprinkles not to eat them, at least not until investigators figure out the source of the contamination.

Almost doesn’t seem real (are “outbreaks” the new thing?)…but lastly according to the CDC, the people most vulnerable to these infections include older adults, infants, and people with weak immune systems. So this is “Breaking News: Don’t Eat Candy Apples,” and you’ve been warned!
