‘The Late Late Show’ spent 10 years on CBS. During the opening of his final episode as host of ‘The Late Late Show’, Ferguson sang ‘Bang Your Drum’ by Dead Man Fall. The late night star wore green socks and put his feet on his desk and fooled around during his last hours of hosting the show. “I really didn’t know” how to start the last show…I could do a monologue, but I really didn’t have anything left to say,” he says. Ferguson thanked the staff and crew during the opening monologue. He goes on to say that the show wouldn’t have lasted not even 10 minutes without the viewers watching and tuning in. He says, “Now it belongs to you…and you can keep it, because I’m done with it.”

Ferguson then introduced his final guest, Jay Leno and he joked that they are now “two guys with nothing to do.” Leno said, “They can take away our talk shows…but they can’t take away our freedom!” They also spoke about how hosting late night TV changes as time passes. Leno states, “When you’re 40 and interviewing gorgeous supermodels who are 25, it’s ok…When you’re 54, you’re the creepy old guy…The thing about standup is you don’t get notes..you don’t get a note saying we’re not doing well among immature 11 to 14-year-old boys, so do you have any material that would appeal to them?”

Ferguson says that he is very proud of how far the show has came over the years. “You came to a show that was, let’s be honest, a bit of a fixer-upper…and it kind of stayed that way. But what I think I was trying to do here, and think we managed to do, is make something that wasn’t here before,” he states.
