After parting ways with Jim Harbaugh, the 49ers are in the hunt for a replacement. Recent reports are indicating that they are showing interest in former Jets coach Rex Ryan. Hit the jump for details.

Via NBC Sports:

The 49ers just parted ways with a coach from a famous football family and they’ll be speaking to a member of another one on Sunday about replacing him.

Kimberly Jones of NFL Media reports that the 49ers have scheduled a Sunday interview with Rex Ryan, who was dismissed by the Jets a day after the 49ers’ “mutual” decision to end Jim Harbaugh’s tenure as their head coach.

The 49ers’ interest in interviewing Ryan was reported shortly after Ryan became unemployed and the Falcons have also shown interest in the man who took the Jets to two AFC title games in 2009 and 2010 before missing the playoffs in his last four years in Jersey. That disappointing end came with heaping helpings of poor offensive play that Ryan couldn’t improve, which may make him an odd fit with a 49ers team that finished 8-8 after similar struggles in 2014.

Ryan has also reportedly spoken to ESPN about a television job in the event that he doesn’t land a head coaching gig for the 2015 season and his personality’s natural fit for a role in the media makes it hard to believe Ryan will be without a job of some kind for too long.
