Nas sits down with Time magazine and talks about the importance of encouraging the, “king and queen” black youth in America. As one of hip hop’s most influential icons, Nas uses his voice to suggest that not just blacks, but also white Americans know the history of racism and more.

With scenes from Nas’ Time Is Illmatic documentary, the rapper himself encourages Americans to do better. “You may have read about the civil rights, but you didn’t live it. You may have read about legends in Mississippi and Alabama, but you didn’t live through it,” he begins. “Now, yo get to see it … something that’s been going on entirely too long. It’s not cool to look a apartheid South Africa 1988,” he continues.

For a long time now, with popular hits like “One Mic” and “If I Ruled The World“, featuring the beautiful Lauryn Hill, Nas has spoken on the topic of racism and the black community knowing their worth. With the negativity of black versus white surfacing to the top of discussions lately, he’s being heard more now than ever. Dope.

I see racism as a human psychology and indoctrination from society.
the arrogance selfishness in humans won’t let them see each other as either equal or fellow humans, we want our own to prevail, we always want to dominate.
And society is not exempted from this, the system promotes racism and indirectly brainwashes the masses, I need not to emphasize more on this, a glimpse at history is enough to cement my arguement.
Until White America is will ti except its wrong doings, and all bkacks are ready to act as one. We will continue to see the world through these indifferent and ignorant eyes.

And in the meantime, whether you rent or own your home/apartment keep the front as well as the inside neat and clean. I’m tired of our people having the reputation for not taking care of of community and allowing it to turn into a ghetto. We are not nasty and triflin are we? A young lady visiting here from Africa said American ghettos reminds her of some of the poorest countries in Africa.
“read more learn more, change the globe” that’s what even a german white boy from the suburbs learned, thank you for that nas!
If only blacks were to come together and not seperate one another from skin complexion. I think it’s stupid and sad. No other race is putting there woman down saying the other race woman are better. Blacks are doing what is expected of them. The black culture was always unique. The dancing , food, clothing, creativity , music. The way black woman look was unique now everyone has those same curves. I feel as though the world loves black culture just not the people because of the image and slander that was put in people’s minds. Black people can’t be themselfs but it’s ok for others to copy or try to look similar or act similar to the black culture .People need to think for themselfs so many people are comfortable with being ignorant.
Tracey, it’s much deeper than that. People need to understand the conditioning of self hatred by white ancestry has been imbedded in black minds. There are studies on how DNA has memory. Link that to the hundred of years of self hatred conditioning. As for our culture being loved and not the people. Well, our culture is now starting to be appropriate on our culture. It was never except able to the mass (white people) but since they can capitalize on it; its “exceptable” now
Acceptable*^ and appropriated. Sorry but don’t like typos and there isn’t an option
It is quite sad and disheartening to see how some of the black communities are destroying what are fore father’s fought for. It is a deep conditioning that has been going on since times of slavery. If we as a people can not break the psychological hold that has been put on us from the oppressor we will never truly be free. Whether you live as the wealthy or in the ghettos as a black person. We must love each other dark and light, black men need to respect the black women as the Queens they were and still are, black women need to give there black men there due instead of thinking they can do it on there own, we need to respect our children for there opinons and creativity. Can’t we all see? This has been cooked up by the oppressor over 200 years ago and they laugh from there grave because we still give them the power. The sad thing is they knew what potential we had, what would happen if we started to read and form our own opinion. Too bad we haven’t realized it ourselves…
