Funeral of Slain NYPD Officer Liu

NYC and NYPD Prepare for Funeral of Slain Officer Wenjian Liu following yesterday’s wake which drew hundreds of officers from across the country. As was the case for Officer Rafael Ramos last weekend, state, city and federal officials including Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio, NYPD Commissioner Bratton, and others will be present. Tensions between the mayor and police have already begun to cease after the NYPD Commissioner made statements regarding the protest many police engaged in during Ramos’ service.

NYC and NYPD Prepare for Funeral of Slain Officer Wenjian Liu who was killed with his partner Officer Rafael Ramos two weeks ago in an ambush homicide by Ismaaiyl Brinsley in Brooklyn. After a couple weeks of mourning and Ramos’ widely attended and televised funeral service last week, many are looking to pay respects in an atmosphere that is calmer, more collective in tone and more positive than the road coming.

After last week saw members of the NYPD police force turning their backs during the Mayor’s speech, as well as flying a banner which stated they would the week before that, Commissioner Bratton finally said a few things which has seemed to snap a few necks in place and reel things in. The circulating statement notes no officers would be punished for the protests, however as NYC and NYPD Prepare for Funeral of Slain Officer Wenjian Liu behavior as such was unacceptable and ill-placed, not to mention broadcast for the world to see:

“A hero’s funerals is about grieving, not grievance. I issue no mandates, and I make no threats of discipline, but I remind you that when you don the uniform of this department, you are bound by the tradition, honor and decency that go with it.”

Yesterday’s wake saw Mayor de Blasio in fact greeted with a more than a few salutes as proof of the quick turnaround (#BOSS). As NYC and NYPD Prepare for Funeral of Slain Officer Wenjian Liu the Chinese and Chinese-American communities of the city have also payed their respects, engaging in candle light ceremonies last night within neighborhoods where elders and the disabled who could not reach the Brooklyn wake participated in. The funeral will take place this morning with coverage into the afternoon.

RIP, #AllLivesMatter
