It started off as a joke but the curse of Josh Smith is starting to look real.  His former team, the Atlanta Hawks are at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 26-8 record and now the Detroit Pistons have gone 6-0 since they shockingly waived his massive contract and dropped him from the team.

Everyone thought the Pistons winning streak was a fluke and saw the game against the San Antonio Spurs as the real test.  Well it came down to the wire with the Spurs up one with eight seconds left.  All they needed to do was inbound the ball, hit their free throws and they would beat a rejuvenated and feisty Pistons team.

But Tim Duncan‘s pass was slightly behind Patty Mills, who still should have caught it but fumbled it, and that gave the Pistons the final shot. Brandon Jennings — who had 13 points on the night but on 18 shots and was just 2-of-9 inside eight feet — hit the banked in runner as time expired to give the Pistons the 105-104  win.

The Pistons have another big test tonight as they play the Dallas Mavericks and another Friday facing the Altanta Hawks.  The streak likely won’t continue but it’s sure given everyone something to talk about.
