YES, apparently she can and she has! Taylor Swift Trademarks the Phrase “This Sick Beat” and more from her record breaking “1989” album in a move that, frankly has a lot of Hip Hop fans gagging if not just scratching their heads. With the way these phrases have spun to literally hundreds of billions around the world, can you knock the hustle? Or are you like Kanye West, still trying to figure out how we got to this point???

Yep, if you were juuuust thinking of doing something with the following phrases, read ’em and weep. This young lady and global mega-star is not just a fresh faced country and pop icon, but if you didn’t already know—is about her business. Taylor Swift Trademarks the Phrase “This Sick Beat” and she didn’t stop there:

If you want to “Party Like It’s 1989” to “This Sick Beat,” you better ask Taylor Swift’s permission first. The pop star has trademarked those phrases – along with “‘Cause We Never Go Out of Style,” “Could Show You Incredible Things” and “Nice to Meet You, Where You Been?” – with the U.S. government, according to the legal database Justia (via Vox).

The move for Taylor Swift Trademarks the Phrase “This Sick Beat” comes to secure a defense against people or companies who may try to use the phrases on literally anything. And we mean, ANYTHING: the patent covers everything down to aprons, guitar straps, removable tattoos, “non-medicated toiletries,” napkin holders, Christmas stockings, “knitting implements,” and even “whips, harness and saddlery.” LOL–reeaaallllyy???

“For reference, feel free to cut and paste the special characters ™ and ® for future references to 1989.”

…apparently!!! Looks like you don’t get to be as big as Taylor without dotting ALL your i’s and crossing ALL your t’s. More power to her as a young lady looking out for her brand… But do you think the root on some of these phrases is being cut in on? Should Hip Hop be compensated at all for the creation of this trademark situation???
