Chance the Rapper Hosts Open "Mike"

Attention all poets, rappers, artists and performers in the Midwest: Just announced is Chance the Rapper Hosting Open “Mike” in Chicago Next Monday!!! But there’s a catch…

Chance the Rapper Hosting Open “Mike” in Chicago and the catch is stated right on the promo flyer: “You Must Present Your High School ID to Attend.” That’s right!!! (Sorry, all you grown folks’ll have to wait outside with your mixtapes). Chance is trying to give back and emphasizes “looking for young artists.” This is a full circle for the Chicago native though, for all the open mics he frequented on his come-up. He encourages everyone to share the announcement and tag any friends you think might be interested:

“The concert, which appears to be in the same vein as the arts club shows where he and Vic Mensa honed their skills, takes place this coming Monday (Feb. 9) at the Cassidy Theater in Chicago. The venue, part of the Chicago Cultural Center, will be open at 4:45 p.m. on the day of, just 15 minutes before the show is scheduled to start.”

Chance the Rapper Hosting Open “Mike” in Chicago is also the latest since his announcement of putting solo projects aside to put a full court press on “The Social Experiment,” a collaboration and band of friends he was a part of since before “The Rapper” blew up to international fame.

The philanthropy bug is also no stranger to Young Chancellor. Chance the Rapper Hosting Open “Mike” in Chicago comes on the heels of his recent $100,000 fundraiser with Sway for a “Get Schooled” program. For all the negative press rappers and young black men get–and everything politicians and leaders are NOT doing for our communities–the continuous efforts, spirit and energy of Chance is really nothing to glaze over.
