A relationship that consumes you, isn’t always a bad one. Jazmine Sullivan, however admits the relationship that was the leading cause of her three-year hiatus was in-fact, bad. “I was in a relationship that was very consuming. It was bad and it was very consuming,” Sullivan tells rolling out. “It took all of my everything, all of my energy, my everything. So I really didn’t have anything left for anything else and even the thing that I cared about the most and I had been working for the most which was my music, I didn’t have any energy to give to it, so I decided that I needed to take a break,” she continues. Toxic. Well, we’re glad that everything is getting back to normality. I know that me personally, miss the hell out of this young woman’s voice.

In addition to her media runs, Jazmine leaving her musical footsteps in venues across the globe. Mid-November, the “Dumb” songbird visited Gramercy Theater in New York City, where the day before, Hello Beautiful got a chance to talk with the female artist on her humble beginnings and rumors of why she actually took a break. “A lot of people think that the pressure of the industry and, you know, my weight and everything kind of made me stop,” Sullivan says. We now know the truth.

“It took me a long time to feel comfortable enough to say it. I went through a lot of guilt myself, like, should I expose this? Am I being petty by talking about it? It’s a lot of feelings that women have in regards to this. But, [I realized] this can possibly help somebody to see that someone that they look up to, or listen to, or are a fan of have actually been through it, and not only have I been through it, but I came out of it. I just felt like it’s a part of my story so why not share it? I’m the face of my own situation. I don’t know if I can be the face for everybody, but I definitely want to share my story the way I’ve experienced it and I hope people can learn from it like I have.”
