Taraji P. Henson Says Lil Kim Is Inspiration Behind Cookie character. In her recent interview with Vogue magazine the “Hustle and Flow” actress talked about Fox’s new hit Tv show ‘Empire’. Viewers have fallen in love with Taraji’s character Cookie. She’s sassy, intelligent, stylish,(in her 90’s fashion) and business minded. She’s literally “Every Woman”. Taraji credits the females of hip hop; she says that Foxy Brown, Salt and Pepper, and Lil Kim were a huge influence on her character Cookie. Taraji fails to put Nicki in the same category;in fact she states Nicki Minaj got everything from Kim. Shady or Nah? More details after the jump.
“Kim is everything. Today it’s Nicki Minaj, but Nicki Minaj got everything from Kim. Kim came on the scene and made everything change for women—she made it feminine and sexy and hardcore. She was a champion, and she’s certainly Cookie’s champion.”
Taraji goes on to say she is a fan of 90’s hip hop “I’m a hip hop baby” it reminds her of her twenties “I’mma be one of those old heads still listening, one of those grandmas still hitting it and getting it. My mother knows the blues like I know hip-hop.” Maybe her comment about Nicki is a little biased then since she considers her self and “Old Head” either way Lil Kim caught wind of her comment and tweeted about it. Taraji NEVER lied. LI Kim is straight HARDCORE. No one made lil kim natural hard core on the mike nor stylish. However, she is her TRUE character. Nikki Minaj is straight copying from Lil Kim. I go kim any giving day over nikki. Nikki, get your “OWN STYLE!”
