Deadline reports Mike Epps to Star in Lead Role with Nia Long for New ABC Comedy for the “single-camera” television adaptation of “Uncle Buck,” based on the John Hughes film starring John Candy:

“Like the movie, the series adaptation, written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, centers on Buck Russell (Epps), a childish man who learns how to be an adult by taking care of his brother Will’s kids in a very childish way. Long will play Will’s strong-willed and smart wife.”

Hmm, interesting…Mike Epps to Star in Lead Role with Nia Long for New ABC Comedy and the scoop is this is actually the 2nd remake of the “Uncle Buck” story–but the first time the lead role will be played by an African American man. The producer Will Packer (Think Like A Man, Ride Along) is definitely used to casting black leading roles.
