Hilary Duff (or “Lizzie McGuire” as we remember her) was one of the most beautiful YET very innocent famous faces of the early 2000s. However, she is now all grown up, divorced and a mother of an adorable boy. She recently had an intimate sit-down with Cosmopolitan Magazine where she revealed a lot of info that we’ve been wondering throughout the years. Click below to find out the deets!
Duff filed for divorce back in January after things began to fall apart with her estranged husband, Michael Comrie. The two share a two-year-old son together named Luca, but according to Hilary, they are both very mature about the situation. She explains to Cosmo:
Mike and I were very in love when we met. We both really wanted to get married. I’d been working since the age of 11 or 12, so making that choice at a young age seemed right for me. Maybe it wasn’t, but we spent the majority of our time together really happy. It wasn’t working well enough to stay together, but there was still a lot of love involved. It was just a slow set-in of us not being the match that we used to be. I’m lucky for the person he is and I am, and how we decided to handle this.”
During the interview, she also touched on the controversial topic of her virginity (subliminally, but we’re not dumb.) Her first boyfriend was former Good Charlotte punk rocker Joel Madden, who was 26 at the time when she was only 16. The two dated for three years. “I had a 26-year-old boyfriend, so everyone can make their own assumptions about what I was doing.”
To close out her interview, Hilary gives her current viewpoint on marriage and love. “I don’t want to sound bitter because I’m definitely not, but I don’t know if people are meant to be together forever,” she explains. “Things happen over a long relationship that you can’t always fight. A marriage of 20 years, the accomplishment of that must feel really great, but there are also huge sacrifices. I just always want to fight for happiness.”
