Complex and the New York Times music writer Jon Caramanica report the New York Chief Medic Releases Official Cause of A$AP Yams Death. The cause of death is summed up as an “acute mixed drug intoxication.” Though word on the street and in the tweets always pointed to a mix of “lean”–notorious in Hip Hop and nightlife culture–with other substances, the official verdict comes down to “opiates and benzodiazepine.”

Benzodiazepines are legal meds classified by WebMD as ‘tranquilizers’ and can be highly abusive. Common types like Valium and Xanax are often taken without prescriptions and can be highly addictive. Opiates according to ISATE like OxyContin, codeine, morphine, or heroin are pain relievers at the core and narcotics at their worst.
