He must of felt so hopless not only was he unable to speak or sign to an interpreter,he can barely write in English;6 weeks is a long time. “Zemedageghu is an immigrant from Ethiopia who has US citizenship. He knows both Ethiopian and American sign language, but he can only write extremely basic English. It is unclear”
Innocent, Deaf Man Jailed for 6 Weeks With No Interpreter. Zemedagegehu is seeking justice because he feels he was discriminated against.
“I felt like I was losing my mind,” Zemedagegehu told AP through an interpreter. “I thought Virginia would give me an interpreter and they said no. That’s why I felt lost.”He has filed a federal lawsuit against the Arlington County sheriff, claiming that he was not treated according to the standards of the Americans With Disabilities Act.
“They’re doing this 25 years after the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed. They know better,” Zemedagegehu said.
