Trevor Noah Replaces Jon Stewart for Daily Show

The end of an era marks the beginning of a new one: Trevor Noah Replacing Jon Stewart On “The Daily Show” and ushers in more than just diversity to the Comedy Central classic. He’s a stand-up comedian and television contributor from South Africa–and the definition of a fresh face. A new voice, new perspective, and most importantly–seriously funny, this should be good!!!

Trevor Noah Replacing Jon Stewart On “The Daily Show” may be uncomfortable news to some, but check out his work leading up and its clear why Jon and everyone involved gave him the green light. The New York Times and multiple sources are reporting on the new ‘heir to the throne’ of late night political talk with a twist of pop culture (Jon on WWE the other night or even remember Beyonce being called “mental poison” by an Iowa Republican on the show), strong sides of comedy and straight-up shots of sanity to chase it all down.

It was in December we caught the first glimpse of the 31 year old who would become Trevor Noah Replacing Jon Stewart On “The Daily Show” after being pegged as the “biracial” with the “outsider” point of view. The angles all worked, especially against the background of the ongoing #BlackLivesMatter stories, saying:

“I never thought I’d be more afraid of police in America than in South Africa,” he said with a smile. “It kind of makes me a little nostalgic for the old days, back home.”

…(LOL), that’s #realtalk tho. Flashback in your mind or to that day in history class you missed and remember that the South African homeland of Trevor Noah Replacing Jon Stewart On “The Daily Show” was once home to apartheid–aka the legal separation of races which was only officially clearing out around 1991. Though it’s a little unpexected that he’s gotten the promotion after only three months, and since the news of Jon Stewart leaving at all, and all the people not getting the job–it’s clear the direction they want to move in.

Jon said in a statement “I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with. I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!” –that would be dope! But this is certainly a score for the current generation and for a “nonwhite performer at the head of this flagship Comedy Central franchise.” What do you think, and will you be watching???
