42nd Annual Grammy Awards - Pressroom

We all knew Jennifer Lopez’s infamous green dress from the 2000 Grammy Awards was a game-changer, but apparently it had even more influence than we realized!

In a recent essay on Project Syndicate, Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt opened up about the invention of Google Image Search, and revealed that J. Lo and her jaw-dropping Versace attire were a major reason for it!

“People wanted more than just text. This first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, where Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, caught the world’s attention,” Schmidt wrote. “At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: J!Lo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born.”

Crazy! Of course, it did wonders for Jen and for Gianni Versace at the time as well.

Taking to Instagram in response to the news, Jenny From The Block wrote:
