NYPD Officers were forced to shoot during a confrontation with an armed gunman last night in Queens. Unfortunately, the confrontation resulted in the death of the 30 year old, white male; who is still unidentified at this time. The shooting took place on Hillside Ave. and 168th Place, after the officers tracked the gunman down from the SBS Hillside Bar.

According to Eric Vincent, a bouncer at the bar, the gunman was talking with other patrons and seemingly enjoying himself. Suddenly the guy snapped and began shooting at the ceiling. “The guy just snapped,” said Vincent. “Everything changed in a split second. Everything was good, everybody was having a good time, and it all changed in a split second.” According to sources, the weapon used was a black Glock – 9 mm handgun.

Once the authorities were notified and arrived on the scene, they actually took Eric Vincent with them to help ID the suspect. Vincent vividly explained exactly what took place as Police Officers closed in on the suspect. “I told them he was wearing a blue jacket and ran up the hill and the cop said, ‘Get in,’ to help ID the guy.”
According to Vincent’s account the gunman began firing shots at Police as they tried to apprehend him. “He was in the middle and cops was coming up both ways and I guess he felt trapped and started shooting,” Vincent said. “I heard them yell, ‘Shots fired! Shots fired!’ over the radio,” he said. “I was a little scared. I just crouched in the back seat and stayed down.”

The suspect was shot in the chest and taken to Jamaica Hospital where he later died. No one knows what triggered the unidentified gunman’s erratic behavior, but I wonder how he was able to get a gun in a bar with a bouncer present!
