The reason for the auction, Harpo Studios in Chicago where she recorded her show The Oprah Winfrey Show, for 20 years is closing. Oprah is moving to sunny California, well at least her cable network OWN is. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, in South Africa, which Winfrey started in January 2007.

The school for disadvantaged girls, has a powerful mission statement and in a previous statement about the school Winfrey stated:
“Every child has a right to an education, but to attend the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls will be a privilege. I refer the girls who attend, as well as those who aspire to attend the Academy, to the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: “My young friends, doors are opening to you – doors of opportunities that were not open to your mothers and fathers – and the great challenge facing you is to be ready to face these doors as they open.”

According to Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, other auction items include fountain pens, sunglasses and watches. The auction will be held April 25, with bidding in person and online. With Mothers day just under a month away, a gift from you and Oprah to Mom doesn’t sound bad at all.
