Liberty

At 11:30 AM today the U.S. park police received a phone call with a bomb threat saying their was package in a visitors locker at the Statue of Liberty. The park police had the K-9’s sniffing out the area and did get a reaction showing their was something there.

The NYPD bomb squad is on the island and they are looking into that suspicious package. There are ferries available for people to take off of the island. The Statue of Liberty was evacuated. Mike Burke, the head of Statue Cruises, which operates the ferry to the island, said: “Our first priority is the safety and well being of all of our visitors.” Because of the bomb threat, Burke said Statue Cruises would be “postponing all service to Liberty Island until the investigation is complete.” Police are tracking back the phone calls to find out who made the bomb threat phone call. The suspicious locker was found empty. Police are still investigating.
