CHAMPION

When justice needs to be served, a way is found! In Orlando, Florida, a jury has convicted the last three defendants of manslaughter and hazing the death of the Florida A&M University drum major. Read after the jump to find out more.

After two hours of deliberation, the jury found 22 year old Aaron Golson, 24 year old Benjamin Mc Namee and 28 year old Darryl Cearnel guilty for the November 2011 death of Robert Champion, FAMU drum major. They were found guilty of manslaughter for beating Champion to death.

Champion’s death was not out of the ordinary. He was beaten by his friends, because of tradition. Just like a lot of other colleges, the tradition of running up and down the aisle of the bus after a game while getting hit and swung with instruments is what caused Champion to collapse. This ruled the three defendants to get charged with hazing.

A total of 15 defendants were initially charged. Golson, Mc Namee, and Cearnel be sentenced in june. The three will serve a maximum 5 years for hazing and another years 15 for manslaughter.
