Kawhi Leonard’s stock is going UP and everyone is taking notice. He was named the defensive player of the year for this season and is poised to become a perennial all star and one of the best overall players in the league period. The Spurs organization is one of the smarter ones in sports and according to reports they have no plans to low ball Kawhi this summer and in fact will offer him the max deal on the very first day of free agency.

Kawhi’s will become one of the most sought after restricted free agents this summer and the Spurs know it. Kawhi seems to love playing there so he likely won’t even entertain offers from other teams but the Spurs will make sure of it by paying him among the elite’s in the game like Lebron, KD and more.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports the Spurs are expected to offer the newly crowned Defensive Player of the Year a maximum contract on the first day of free agency. Early indications are the San Diego State product is happy in San Antonio:

For now, there’s no scenario where Leonard plans to pursue offer sheets on the market, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Leonard wants to be a Spur, and the Spurs are expected to come calling on July 1 with the max offer that they resisted delivering Leonard in the preseason, a move born out of preserving cap space to bring on a star free agent this summer.

Kawhi was the MVP of the 2014 Finals and with the Tim Duncan era in San Antonio about to end soon, they know he can carry the franchise for the next decade.
