As you may already know, the protests in Baltimore have become violent, following the death of 25 year old Freddie Gray while in police custody. As we continually see this theme of black men being murdered by police, you may wonder what we can do to stop it. As tempers shorten, and tension grows between those losing hope and those who are sworn to protect them; is there any positivity we can salvage from all this?

Gang members in Baltimore seem to see the big picture this weekend. Bloods, Crips, and even members of the Nation of Islam have united for the protests in Baltimore. Some have been captured in photos holding their fists up, as sign of black power. Let me say, that full fist is much more powerful than individual fingers! I hope we see more unity like this in our communities. Of course it won’t happen over night, and understandably so, but it’s a start! We may have deep rooted differences, and dark memories from the past. Can we let the past die so our children have a better future? United we stand, divided we fall!

PEACE
