In an attempt to capture the tense moments before the 10 PM curfew put on Baltimore residents was put into effect, Fox News and reporter, Geraldo Rivera went live to share the scene with the world. But the thing about live TV is you never know what you’re going to get. Geraldo’s insensitivity and poor choice of words created a live, on camera fight!

This incident went from bad to WORSE as a protestor stepped in front of Geraldo’s camera, completely obstructing the view of Geraldo and interviewee, Senator Cathrine Pugh . From the audio of the footage, it seemed as though Geraldo attempted to move the man out of his way. Moments after, pure chaos ensued. What was supposed to be an interview with State Senator, Cathrine Pugh quickly backfired. Geraldo tried to regain his composure and find a more quite place for his interview. It’s safe to say Geraldo was not a crowd favorite. A woman in the crowd repeatedly said , “Stop trying to make money off Black people, Geraldo.” I think that comment eventually got to him as he said, “It seems like they want trouble.” Leave it to the news to perpetuate stereotypes.

But once the mass of people dismantled, the same rioter before who “wanted trouble” attempted to break down the real issues to Geraldo. The rioter addressed the fact that Fox doesn’t cover the positive movements that happen in Baltimore, they are only there to cover the negative moments such as the riots. Baltimore feeling exploited by the media is a huge part of the problem and the rioter tried to help Geraldo see that. Who knows if those honest words from someone living the story resonated with the person who’s just covering it as an assignment.
