Original:A trip to a popular tattoo shop, featured on a VH1 reality show, sent Loni Tate to the hospital with an infection and permanent scars! More details after the jump.

This wasn’t Loni’s first tattoo. The Harlem native and fan of the popular reality show, ‘Black Ink Crew’ went to the Black Ink Studio to get her sixth tatt. This wasn’t even her first time at the shop. Back in January 2014, Tate had gotten a butterfly flying out of a skull tatted on her arm. “I was very happy with it,” she said. She was so happy with the work several months later she returned to the shop to get another.

However, her experience the second time around was the complete opposite of the first. Tate went into the shop to get a rose design on her forearm. About three hours into the session, the artist Kelvin Cepeda told Tate he had to leave for ‘an event’ and would finish the design the following day. She agreed.

When Tate showed up the next day she was surprised to learn that Cepeda already had the tattoo gun set up. “They normally open it and set it up in front of you,” she said.

She left the shop that day completely satisfied and in love with her custom red and black design. But just three days later Tate said, “I was in excruciating pain.”

She said that she contacted the artist who told her she would feel better in “a couple of days.” But in fact, Tate felt worse. The ink had swelled up and started to ooze. “I felt like my arm was on fire, like I’d been burned,” she said.

Tate was in the hospital for 4 days while the doctors did their best to heal the deep infection. She’s now suing for unspecified damage. Mark Shirian, Tate’s lawyer, is calling for stricter regulations for city tattoo shops.

“People need to understand that a tattoo procedure is the equivalent of undergoing minor surgery,” Shirian continued “More stringent regulations must be adopted immediately in order to protect the health and well-being of New Yorkers.”

This is the third lawsuit brought against Black Ink. A woman from South Carolina sued the shop for scarring her chest during a coverup session.

The show will return to VH1 in August.
