Ben E. King is most known for the classic 1961 hit “Stand By Me”. His agent reported to the Telegraph that he died from natural causes. I know most of you may not know him but your parents have. Ben E. came on the scene in the 1950’s as a member of the Drifters and they are best known for their hits, “Save The Last Dance For Me” and “There Goes My Baby.” Around 1961 he went solo and his song “Stand By Me” was in the top 10, not only in 1961 but in 1986 when it was used in the film starring River Phoenix. Gary U.S. Bonds, a fellow singer, went on Facebook to pay his respects to an old friend.

“With an extremely heavy heart, I must say goodbye to one of the sweetest, gentlest and gifted souls that I have had the privilege of knowing and calling my friend for more than 50 years — Mr. Ben E. King,” he wrote. “Thank you Ben E. for your friendship and the wonderful legacy you leave behind.”
