AR-Ab has truly been to hell and back. In 2011, he survived being shot multiple times and has been behind bars more times than he’s wanted. After doing a bid in prison for 18 months, AR-Ab is finally in a better place in his life. The Philly rapper is making his way back into the spotlight after releasing the sequel to his Mud Muzik mixtape not long ago. Recently, he spoke out about the project and reflected on the unfortunate passing of his mother. See what he had to say after the jump!

Abdul West aka AR-Ab sat down with Mikey T The Movie Star for a three-part interview. In the latter portion of the conversation, the former OBH member broke down the meaning behind Mud Muzik 2. He explained that the word “mud” actually stands for “Motivation Under Distress” or “Motivation Under Despair.” The project has offered him a way to vent about the series of unfortunate events that has occurred in his life thus far, including the passing of his mother.

“I’ve been through a lot in my life,” Ab said. “A lot of times, all I be feeling is despair or I feel trapped in despair. I’m just stressed the fuck out because I lost a lot of family. My mom died like… I’m not used to living without my mom.”

The mixtape is the sequel to the first Mud Muzik, which dropped in 2013. The three-part interview also detailed his relationship with fellow Philly spitter Meek Mill and how they met after he got out of jail. Ab illustrated how he introduced Meek to Cassidy as “the next big thing” before their infamous beef began. Ab also gives us a better understanding of how Cassidy set him up for murder back in the day. Watch all three segments of the interview below.
