Seven years after the death of Pimp C, a book detailing his life experiences, entitled SWEET JONES: Pimp C’s Trill Life Story, will be released July 7, 2015. The promotional Instagram page for the book revealed the release date along with the official cover. Chad Butler’s biography was penned by former OZONE magazine publisher and editor-in-chief Julia Beverly. Throughout the process of writing the book, she was directed by Butler’s mother and manager Weslyn “Mama Wes” Monroe before her death in 2013.

At least 250 people associated with Pimp C’s life and music career were interviewed for the book. Pimp C’s UGK partner Bun B was tapped to share his memories as well as Snoop Dogg, Three 6 Mafia, 8Ball & MJG, the Geto Boys, Master P, David Banner, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Ice-T, Goodie Mob, Lil Keke, Z-Ro, Trae, Webbie and Mannie Fresh.

Along with Butler’s life story, the book will also examine “Houston’s dynamic music culture, the pitfalls of the entertainment industry, the economics and racial disparity of the massive Texas Criminal Justice system, the realities of the pimp/prostitute subculture and human trafficking, the hazards of drug abuse and much more.”

Pimp C passed away after his sleep disorder apnea clashed with a deadly combination of codeine and promethazine.
