The NYPD has been on the lookout for a suspect who has attacked three women and two men over the course of six hours, earlier this week. They now believe to have their man in custody after police tried to approach a man whose first reaction was to take out what appeared to be a hammer and chuck it at the officers. That is when gunfire began to erupt at W. 37th St. and Eighth Avenue.

Witnesses say that the suspect was struck at least five times, however, he has been taken into the hospital where he remains in serious condition.

More details as they come.

A man injured in a shooting by police is taking into an ambulance Wednesday. He’s believed to be the person involved in hammer attacks around the city, a source says.

About 10 minutes later he ambushed a 33-year-old woman and struck her in the back of the head on W. 17th St. near Union Square. Both women suffered minor injuries.
