President Obama has signed the Rafaeal Ramos and Wenjian Liu National Blue Alert Act which is named after the two officers who were ambushed and killed in their squad car back in December of last year.
This new law is a measure that will require automatic nationwide “Blue Alerts” to warn police officers about threats against them and to help find and track the suspects who intend to pursue these criminal acts. The suspect named Ismaaiyl Brinsley had shot his girlfriend that day then took to his instagram and was threatening to kill police officers because of the killings in Ferguson, MO as retaliation and NYC but the info never made it to New York. President Obama stated “They were serving their community with great honor and dedication and courage, and all of New York grieved and all of the nation grieved,” “It’s important for us not only to honor their memory, it’s also important for us to make sure that we do everything we can to help ensure the safety of our police officers when they’re in the line of duty.”
