Two convicted murders have escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility which is a maximum-security prison. It is unclear how Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34 escaped from the facilty. Police were notified around 5:45 a.m. after the two men were not accounted for during an early morning bed check. Both men are considered dangers to the public. Hit the jump for more.

The prison is located about 20 miles from the Canadian border and roadblocks have been put in place in the area. Matt is serving a sentence of 25 years to life for kidnapping a man and beating him to death and dismembering the body in 1997 while, Sweat is is serving a sentence of life without parole after he was convicted of first-degree murder for killing a deputy in 2002.

According to police Matt is described as, ‘a 6-foot white male with black hair and hazel eyes. He weighs 210 pounds and has tattoos including “Mexico Forever” on his back, a heart on his chest and left shoulder and a Marine Corps insignia on his right shoulder.’

Sweat is described as a ‘5-foot-11 white male with brown hair and green eyes, weighing 165 pounds, police said. He has tattoos on his left bicep and his right fingers.’

Anyone with information regarding these two men is urged to call police immediately.
