_Lunch With Warren Buffett Is Auctioned Off For $2.3 Million

Every year Warren Buffett auctions off an invitation to have lunch with him. This year the winning bid was $2.35 million dollars. Read more on the story below!

The $2.35 million dollar bid was from a Chinese gaming company called Da Lian Zeus Entertainment. The lunch with Warren Buffett is auctioned off on eBay and the proceeds go to GLIDE, which is a charity that runs a number of anti-poverty programs in San Francisco. Last year a Singaporean businessman named Andy Chua paid $2.2 million to eat lunch with Buffett. The highest price ever paid for lunch with him was $3.5 million by an anonymous bidder in 2012. The winner of the auction can bring up to seven friends and they usually dine at Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in New York City.

Janice Mirikitani, co-founder of GLIDE, says “The divides are getting bigger between the haves and have-nots. Mr. Buffett inspires others who have the means to help bridge that divide.” Many of the people who bid hope to get lucky with Buffett by getting a job with him. But former fund manager Ted Weschler is the only person who went on to work with him after he won two consecutive auctions by spending nearly $5.3 million.

Over the past 15 years, Buffett has helped raise over $20 million for GLIDE. How much would you pay to have lunch with Warren Buffett?
