It was reported Thursday June 11, 2015, months after the successful penis transplant, his woman is four months pregnant. Dr. Andre van der Merwe of Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa, led a nine-hour operation in December to replace the penis at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town. The full functionality happened far more quickly than expected; Dr. van der Merwe thought the patient would recover within two years. The doctor said,”this is what we intended, that he should be able to stand up and be able to urinate and have intercourse, so it is a milestone for him.”

The man’s new penis, harvested from a donor and augmented with abdominal skin, makes it the first time that a transplanted penis has achieved full functioning.
