Republicans Call Beyonce "Mental Poison"

The Queen Bey is being sued by one of her former background singers for $7 million. The singer has accused Beyonce of stealing his music for the hit song ‘XO.’ Beyonce brushing off the claim asking the court to dismiss the case and that the defendant receive nothing. Hit the jump for more details.

The background singer, Ahmad Lane filed a federal lawsuit last year against Queen Bey, Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia records. The suit claims that Beyonce stole his music for her hit song ‘XO.’ According to Lane he worked as a background singer with Knowles current background singer Chrissy Collins for another artist. Lane said he had given a copy of his song ‘XOXO’ to Collins to review, who he believes passed it on the Beyonce.

Beyonce has finally responded to the lawsuit. On June 4, 2015 she called the Lane’s accusations “vague and cryptic.” She told the court that she has no reason to steal music as she is an internationally known singer who has won 17 Grammy’s and sold over 118 million albums.

Court documents state, “The two works at issue are entirely different songs that share no lyrical or musical similarity, other than perhaps the letters “X” and “O.” They also stress that Lane never filed “copyright registration” for his song.

Lane claims in court documents that the copy right infringement is because the song “allegedly copies the first four bars of an eight bar melody that is looped,” and also “contains a four note sequence that is similar to the four note sequence.”

An attorney for Beyonce writes to the court asking them to compare to the two songs. He claims that they will find that the two songs do not share “melodic content and there is no meaningful similarity in pitch series, rhythm or rhythmic patterns, melodic development or structure” he added, “the two songs are distinct from a thematic perspective.” Lane’s song has lyrics about “being horny” and “wanting to love every inch of the lover’s body.” While Beyonce’s song is about “celebration of love and life, emphasizing the importance of living in the present with a loved one ‘before our time has run out.’”

Hopefully, this can be worked out for the best of both parties.
