There was a report that the Dallas Mavericks will explore trade options if Monta Ellis opts in to the $8.72 million player option on his contract.  Ellis has since decided to opt out and become a free agent and is already receiving some interest.

The Mavericks are likely to move on from Ellis, shifting some playmaking duties to Chandler Parsons and going after LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan in free agency.

The Miami Heat are reportedly interested in Ellis only if Dwyane Wade leaves.  Wade and the Heat are reportedly apart on contract numbers and there’s been talk about him possibly joining LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers and there’s also reported mutual interest between Wade and the Los Angeles Lakers.  Wade is reportedly scheduled to meet with the Heat soon.

The Indiana Pacers are also reportedly interested in Ellis and make a bit more sense.
