Nine people were injured during an Independence Day celebration in Avon, Colorado. The town was hosting it’s 29th annual celebration when one of the fireworks exploded in the crowd. According to the town manager it seems that a shell exploded in the tube instead of the sky. A statement released by the manager said, “The misfired shell caused the rack of 5” shells to tip in two directions causing two to three shells to cross into the crowd.”

The cause of the incident however, is still being investigated. Police Chief Greg Daly said, “It is wonderful news that the injuries were very minor.”

The fireworks display in Avon has been celebrated for 29 years and draws crowds of 20,000 people. Avon has never experienced a production failure like the one that happened late Friday night.
